I’m a mac user and the leopard OS has a virtual desktop built in called Spaces. I was skeptical at first, but I now find it to be hugely helpful when I’m on my laptop. I often find myself in workflows where I want to have two programs running full screen, but I need to toggle constantly between them (like viewing a web age in a browser while writing notes in a word processor). I’ve found using a hot key between two desktops to be less distracting than tabbing through open windows.

Ya know, I can’t say I’ve ever looked in to virtual desktops too much, but your post has inspired me to go and do some more research.

Like you, I like things to be clean. Maybe a virtual desktop is the answer.

Ah, good tip Michael. I’m not familiar with Dexpot but really want to give it a try. The multiple workspaces is definitely a capability I’m jealous of on the Mac OS. Thanks!

Michael, I’m totally with you on the distraction factor. I don’t know how some people can have 50 windows open at once, it drives me nuts! I’ll have to check out the “virtual desktop” software you mentioned.
